The Philippines is the world’s first country where a private medical provider is allowed to prescribe prescription drugs for patients without the involvement of a doctor.
The government has said it will allow private doctors to prescribe Viagra (sildenafil) in the country, but it will require the government to fund the drug. Viagra, which costs about $30 a pill, is only available with a doctor’s prescription.
The drug was approved for sale in the Philippines in 2004, but is not yet available in the country’s medical system. Since the drug was approved in 2001, it has been available in almost 200 countries, including the United States, India and Australia.

A Pfizer doctor has revealed how a woman's body is "allergic" to the erectile-dysfunction drug Viagra.
John Smith, 27, who was the founder of the Pfizer family practice in North Carolina, told a BBC medical programme he has noticed the sexual side effects of the drug and that he was also being prescribed Viagra.
When asked why he stopped taking Viagra, he told the programme: "There are things that are wrong with me, there's something wrong with me and there's something wrong with my body."
The BBC doctor said: "I am a good doctor and my body is very, very good. I have no problems and I have no side effects.
"Viagra has no side effects. But I have been taking it for a couple of years and it is working very well for me."
Smith, who is seeking authorisation from the UK Food and Drug Administration for his book, The Truth About Viagra, said: "I am not going to put my life on the line to try and help you.
"It is not the time to give Viagra advice, it is not the time to give advice to a young woman who is being told to stop taking it."
He added: "I hope this information will encourage women to try Viagra.
"I have not heard of any women being told to stop taking Viagra or to stop taking it for any reason.
"Viagra has helped me a great deal and I do not believe it will ever work for me."
The BBC doctor further said: "I am not going to take Viagra advice from a female unless I really need it.
"Viagra is not a drug for women and women are not allowed to take it.
"If you are going to take Viagra, you should not take it with milk or milk products.
"If you are going to take Viagra with food or drinks, you should not take it with alcohol.
"If you are going to have sex and you are not going to be taking it, it will not be effective.
"I think it is just a coincidence.

He added: "I know the woman is very young but she is not going to be able to take it without the Viagra. She is not going to be able to get an erection and it will be a problem."
He said: "I have had very few sexual encounters with Viagra, including the one where I was having a fun time. My erection was not there but it was happening in my head, in my penis and I'm going to tell my doctor what the problem is."

Dr Tony Moffatt, chief executive of Men's Health UK, added: "We understand the challenges of treating conditions like erectile dysfunction, but we also understand the frustration of going to a doctor and finding a solution that works."
He said Viagra should only be prescribed by a medical professional and there should be no need to take it if a woman has a hypersensitivity to the drug.
He added: "For example, if you have diabetes, you would be a candidate for Viagra.
"If you are suffering from cardiovascular problems, you would be a candidate for Viagra.
"If you are suffering from pulmonary hypertension, you are a candidate for Viagra."
